Why herbs?
Among the many benefits of plants to humans is their ability to thrive on earth amidst varying weather conditions and foraging insects. Those qualities that allow plants to survive and thrive are part of their DNA. Those plant qualities, called constituents, can benefit us when we harness their power in the form of teas, tinctures, and salves.
An example is plantain leaf. Plantain, a very unassuming, low growing plant, grows wild in many places. It has demulcent qualities and a cooling energy. These qualities make it a wonderful ally for skin that is irritated by scrapes, stings, or bites. While we can use this plant from any safe area, such as our own land, we aren’t always in a convenient foraging area when we find a need. We always keep Skin Salve on hand for such occasions.
At Mountain Mage, we believe humans are naturally connected to the earth. There is a relationship between the two that should be honored which involves reciprocity and respect. Plants benefit us in myriad ways, and we try to be beneficial to the plants as well.
